Thanksgiving is a time for family, friends and giving thanks. Why not try adding music to your celebration. Below there are 10 selected songs to make your day more enjoyable. Some of the songs are obvious choices, while others you might not have heared before.

1. Over the River and Through the Woods by Hal Lippert, is a favorite of adults, as well as children. Everyone loves to sing this happy song about going to Grandma’s house. We can almost smell the
pumpkin pie and see the pudding that is waiting for them, over the river and through the woods.

2. Turkey in the Straw by Ron Stewart is a lively folk dance written in the early 19th century. This song is used today for square dancing and would certainly spark up your Thanksgiving day. Childen would enjoy clapping to the music of this classic song.

3. Count Your Blessings sung by Bing Crosby and written by Irving Berlin was first heard in the movie White Christmas. Bing Crosby sings this song to Rosemary Clooney . The song asks us to reflect on all the blessings we have in our life. Thanksgiving day would be a great time for counting our blessings.

4. There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays by Bing Crosby speaks for itself. Everyone hopes to be home with their family and friends on Thanksgiving day. This song also makes us think of all the military personal who cannot be with their loved ones on this special day.

5. What a Wonderful World sung by Nat King Cole is a timeless classic. This song reminds us to appreciate the simple things in life, such as a rose, clouds and babies. Everyone should stop and look at the wonderful world we live in.

6. Everything is Beautiful written and sung by Ray Stevens is an award winning song. Mr. Stevens asks his listeners to be tolerent of each other and respect each others differences. Everything and everybody is beautiful in its’ own way.

7.Colors of the Wind sung by Vanessa Williams is from the Disney movie Pocahontas. The singer asks us to try and understand the Native American point of view of life. We are all connected to
nature. We should all be thankful for the gifts that nature provides such as, animals, trees,and the wind. The song also tells us to accept each other despite our differences.

8. Imagine written and sung by John Lennon is a song known all over the world. John sings about a world where we are all brought together by love and peace. He is searching for a perfect place to live. This song is so popular that Ben and Jerry’s offers a brand of ice cream called ” Imagine Whirled Peace” which contains chocolate peace symbols.(1)

9.Let There Be Peace on Earth sung by Vince Gill is another song begging for global peace. If you find peace within yourself, you can spread peace to others. This song could help make Thanksgiving a day of personal reflection.

10. Sing a Happy Song by the carpenters can be sung by everyone. We all need ”a song to last our whole lIfe through.” The children in the family can sing the la, la la, la,la ,la, la parts. This song can end the Thanksgiving Day on a happy note.
